by merging the liberal arts education offered by Brainerd Community College with the career training supplied by Brainerd/Staples Technical
College. The college serves more than 6000 students annually and offers liberal arts transfer education along with more than 60 career

About the Area: Central Lakes College is located in the heart of Minnesota's "land of 10,000 lakes." The lakes area is rich with crystal-clear lakes and bountiful pine forests and is considered by many to be the premier recreational area of the Midwest. The area is known for its world-class resorts/conference centers, golf courses, fishing, snowmobiling, bike trails, and is just 2 hours north of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The communities of Brainerd and Staples anchor the shopping and service center of central Minnesota, a region bustling with growth in business, industry and population.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Vice President for Academic Affairs will provide the educational and administrative leadership and support for Academic Affairs faculty and staff to achieve a high standard of excellence and innovation in strategic enrollment management, teaching and learning, instructional and student support technologies and faculty and staff professional growth. The Vice President will provide the vision and overall guidance for policy formulation, educational planning, the higher learning accreditation process, budgeting and new program development in an integrated instructional setting. The Vice President is a member of the President's Cabinet and will report to the college President, serve as the chief administrative representative on Academic Affairs and Standards Council and serve in various MnSCU, community, state and national organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of three years of full-time employment in a postsecondary educational institution as an academic administrator responsible for leadership and management of faculty and instructional staff.
  • A minimum of a master's degree required (candidates with an earned doctorate preferred). Highest degree must be earned from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education.
PREFERRED CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Effective employment, development, retention, and supervision of faculty.
  • Knowledge and experience with policies and practices relating to excellence in teaching; curriculum development; instructional program planning and budgeting; program innovation, assessment, program review, development, articulation/transfer and review; faculty evaluation; data-based decision making; staff development; distance and on-line education; course and faculty scheduling.
  • Knowledge and experience in the areas of admissions, recruitment and retention, and overall enrollment management as well as fostering K-12 relationships.
  • Experience working with faculty in liberal arts and technical education programs in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Competency in support and use of technology to promote instructional goals.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, responsive decision making and creative problem solving as a leader and manager.
  • Experience developing collaborative relationships, partnerships, and operating as an effective member of a team.
  • Leadership behaviors that have demonstrated support for academic freedom, shared governance, inclusion and participation in decision-making, and equitable treatment of employees.
  • Significant teaching experience.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Accessibility to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to create a positive, respectful culture.
  • Ability to be a change agent.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining a work environment that respects and values differences and diversity.
  • Visionary and innovative.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with grant administration.
